Major Requirements for BA in Japanese


  • Admission: Open
  • Application: NA
  • Min. major credits: 28-37 (44-53 with related requirements)
  • Min. C grade (not C-) in prerequisite courses to continue in the major

Requirements


Students who take both JPN 301  and JPN 302  must pass a minimum of 37 credits to fulfill the major requirements; students who test out of JPN 301  must pass a minimum of 33 credits and those who test out of JPN 302  or more advanced language courses must pass a minimum of 28 credits.

Advanced language skill courses (JPN 301  to JPN 407  and JPN 415 JPN 420  and JPN 421 ) are normally limited to non-native speakers of Japanese. Students who place out of the advanced language courses are required to choose additional electives to fulfill the 28 credits required for the major. These electives should be chosen in consultation with an advisor.

Japanese Advanced Language Courses (10-19 credits)


JPN 358 , JPN 359 , JPN 458 , and JPN 459  are the courses students take while they are studying abroad. They are equivalent to JPN 301 , JPN 302 , JPN 401 , and JPN 402  respectively.
